Got a CD in the mail the other day from a band called The Ravonettes. I liked the packaging, kind of kitschy -- like a movie poster for a scary '50s monster movie. I've given the EP a few spins and really like it though I haven't quite figured out how to describe it. I just stumbled across
this article which is a really nice introduction to the band. Here's how CMJ describes the music in the article:

Coming across like an unholy amalgamation of the Jesus And Mary Chain and the Shirelles, their distorted noise-pop provides an element of harmony most of their contemporaries don't deliver. The pair's debut EP, Whip It On, was approached with a set of strict rules: it was recorded entirely in one key (B-flat minor), using only three chords, without the use of a hi-hat or a ride cymbal.
