Weekend Update
Ben Kweller was dishing out hugs after his performance in Columbus last night. After the show I introduced myself and gave him a copy of The Damnwells PMR and I too scored a hug. Ben said he had heard of The Damnwells because they were touring with Rhett Miller but hadn't heard their music yet. I hope he digs it.
Finally met Robert of Donewaiting (he was at the Ben Kweller show). It's great to see somebody so enthusiastic about the local music scene. He's a fresh body on the scene, having moved here from San Francisco, and it's guys like him that make things happen.
Later that evening, met Ryan of Catbirdseat (and 75orless) for the first time as well. It's weird that we've lived in the same city for so many years but would have never had met (well, maybe) had we both not been on the 75orless staff (the site is based out of Rhode Island).
Of course, it's tough to talk about Saturday night without discussing what happened on the OSU campus in the wake of OSU's victory over Michigan. There really is nothing cool about making your city look shitty on national TV. I went to OSU (graduated in '93) and never saw anything like this while I was in school. I don't know why the current group of college students are such idiots, but you can bet there are going to be some major repercussions. Check out some photos and video of the riots that took place last night. I don't mean to sound like a prude, but the kids who were stupid enough to get caught on film should be expelled from OSU and be brought up on criminal charges.
